I am one of the admins of Beehaw and I’m trying to get some feedback on our potential move.
Let’s start out with a little Beehaw history before judgements are passed, please.
A handful of us were beta testing Tildes when we decided to have discussions on a Discord server.
We decided that our ‘Northern Star’ or guiding principle would culminate as ‘Be Nice’ with purposefully vague/flexible interpretations. Our overall goal is to provide a safe space to disenfranchised persons.
We talked for a little over a year and some of our members became impatient. Then someone stepped in to suggest a couple of platforms that we could consider getting started with.
One of those platforms was Lemmy. None of us knew, at that time, anything about ActivityPub.
During the Reddit exodus (surrounding the API outcry and blackout), our instance exploded. We were, initially, crippled by the mass amounts of users seeking refuge.
Thankfully, someone stepped in and volunteered hundreds of hours of work to stabilize our instance and refine it further.
After many hours of talks, it became clear to us that our overall goal could be achieved outside of Lemmy/ActivityPub.
Right now, we feel that Lemmy and ActivityPub have downsides that are limiting us from achieving that goal.

You don’t need to like us, but at the very least learn and engage honestly if you want to oppose what we have to say. Comparing us to fascists just shows how you know jack shit of what you’re talking about and how condescending you are. The only reason the world doesn’t speak german right now is because of the Soviets, don’t fucking compare MLs to fascists. Also, “mUh ReAl LefTisM”, fuck off.
I will stop calling your kind fascists when you stop praising Russia and North Korea (which are not communist states).
None of us claims that Russia is a communist state, nor do we praise it, this is a straight up lie. If you want to oppose our CRITICAL support of Russia’s fight against NATO and the west hegemony, go ahead, but provide actual arguments instead of fabricating shit.
Now for the DPRK, it is a communist state, stop consuming propaganda uncritically. Go search what people that study the DPRK have to say. Inform yourself on the fight of the Korean people, what they have gone through and what the US did there.

Anarchocommunists like to gatekeep and pretend that state communists are actually right wing, because they can’t fathom that their ideology could have some dark shameful parts too. Sorta like when republicans claim the nazis were socialist because they don’t want to face the dark parts of their ideology. Turns out though, the tankies are leftists, and are communists, they just either think the “stateless” part comes after the party gains totalitarian control through murdering dissenters, or they actually admit that will never happen and just prefer totalitarian control they think they’ll be a party member of.
In other words: fascism. They are not leftists.

Communism, definitionally, cannot have a state. That isn’t gatekeeping. Your can argue about getting there but then tankies generally support states with no interest in actually doing that.
Sometimes, sometimes they at least pretend they intend on abolishing the state even though we all know they’re lying even just by virtue of “even if you’re well intentioned once it exists it will never kill itself.” But also that’s why they aren’t marxists, they’re state communists, they take all the leftist communist ideals +state i.e “not right wing.” Right wing =! “when state.”
