For fear of being called a Hamas bootlicker… I don’t get it.

So there was a secret safe house under the hospital containing some weapons and evidence that someone had been tied up there in the past. Maybe that justifies surrounding the place with tanks and securing it.

So… now that’s been secured, what is the justification for not allowing it to continue to function. Are the IDF giving amnesty to all the displaced patients and giving them the medical aid they need?

It’s the strongest public proof they’ve provided that Hamas are using hospitals for military purposes. They’ve been sharing intelligence with allied governments to that effect for a long time, but not making any of it public.

As for allowing patients to return that’s a good question. I would assume they evacuated to the southern strip now. Even if the hospital building isn’t compromised (that hole in the wall does indicate it may not be structurally safe), there probably isn’t any water, electricity, or fuel. Most medical supplies were likely taken. So the only advantage is larger medical equipment that wasn’t removed - probably the autoclaves are the only thing that are truly useful.

Right. I guess it makes sense not to return them to a non functional hospital. I’d just like to think that if you shut down a hospital that you are then able to provide the displaced occupants with the care they need or at least another place to go.

My main issue is with the scale of it. For me, 3 AKs, a couple of rockets and a box of grenades is not what constitutes a “large weapons cache”. Nor does having those items and a bit of rope on the basement constitute “turning the hospital into a terror base”. Wasn’t the hospital above legit? Sure, it’s a cancer that needs to be cut out, but this is equivalent to killing the cancer patient and making their whole town homeless.

If a bomb making terrorist were found in an apartment building, you would clear out all the paraphernalia and the bomb maker from their apartment. You wouldn’t then make the apartment block uninhabitable and turf out all the other residents to fend for themselves. At least I’d hope you wouldn’t.

Hamas is an asset to Israel.

Every time peace is brought up to the table, they’ll blow it up.

John Oliver did a good job explaining the situation.

Even without saying it literally, Hamas is backed by Iran and they want to destabilize the middle east. Israel wants as much land as possible.

So the plan is Israel ask Hamas to attack them so they can retaliate and occupy more land. A win win situation.

They have been in this state for decades.

The last time they “provided evidence” it was a shitty animation with no actual proof whatsoever. I’m not believing a word those Nazi wannabes say ever again.

IDF presents…IGNORE! Why aren’t there independent parties allowed into Gaza to confirm or deny this? WHY? I don’t believe anything IDF has to say without verification. That’s just fair.

This can’t be. aljazeera said that was just access to a water tank.

Figured it would only be a matter of time before someone showed receipts.

Little tip to keep your protected buildings protected - don’t set up military operations to work out of it.

Apparently this upsets people who are protesting Israel’s behavior. Why? Do you have to believe they are bombing hospitals for shits and giggles in order to hold your conviction? Do you have to believe they are the only evil party in this conflict?

If your criticism of Israel’s military actions are in any way valid and ethical, they should not be harmed by this information.

I don’t think it really matters that much why they are bombing hospitals. I think most people are just upset about the bombing of hospitals.

Finding a little basement underneath with a small cache of weapons in is only upsetting in that some people seem to think that it justifies bombing a hospital full of civilians.

My personal objections are that (a) there’s still civilians there and (b) by bombing hospitals, they’ve given up claim to the moral high ground and that will only create more animosity. I’m an American with no particular animosity towards Israel but I think you’re making the same mistakes we did in Afghanistan and will find the results are the same. You cannot solve terrorism with military.

I don’t have a perfect solution but to me, it seems like you have to find the reasonable people (who also hate the terrorists) and build them up. That means, at the minimum, supporting doctors and undermining Hamas.
