Well, the Index also had a kind of similar port in the front and no one really made anything with it.
I guess the Frame being stand-alone makes it slightly more likely we will see some prototypes of interesting stuff.

It would be great if there was a dock to use it as a desktop PC as well. Sadly the USB port is only 2.0 without display out, but the extension port at the nose might be able to drive a dock via PCIe.

Wordpress has a well working ActivityPub extensions that is developed with official funding by Automattic. You can interact with Mastodon quite well via these extensions.
But yes, Wordpress is kinda shit otherwise.

Warning
Every part of this project HEAVILY used LLMs*
sigh…

Nice vid, and yeah an old laptop or so really will be able to do a lot of cool stuff.
In Discord you also have to pay with your lack of privacy and your text and voice is used to train LLMs, so that is another very real cost.
Right AC. Was a typo, corrected now.
As for running nominally 12V stuff directly of a battery… you got lucky with your router then. I had the same idea with various mini PCs and ARM SBCs, and the majority absolutely should not be run directly off a battery where the voltage fluctuates so much. And it gets even worse when you try to solar charge the batteries.

This is why I put it as “free speech”. Sadly the alt-right has pretty much captured the term in english speaking online spaces. Some people also started to call the alt-right interpretation of it “freeze peach” because of that.
Probably best to use NUT to shut down the servers gracefully if the power outage is too long.
When charging, 12V lead acid batteries have significant higher voltages (>14V), so you basically need a DC to DC converter to make sure you get a stable 12V supply. Some (typically industrial/automotive grade) systems have that built into their internal power supply and can work directly off a 12V battery, but with consumer routers I would assume that not to be the case.
While there is DC AC power the battery in a UPS isn’t used. It’s not a constant AC-DC-AC conversion, that conversion only happens when there is a power outage.
The problem is that lead-acid batteries are a really shitty technology with high self discharge rates and short overall life span (their only advantage is high burst capacity that’s good for starting motors).
I would look for 12V LiFePO4 batteries in a standard lead-acid form factor that are meant as drop in replacements. Those are somewhat more expensive (like 2-3x the price) but will likely last a quarter century or more.
I am currently using an interim solution where my solar inverter has an seperate emergeny power outlet that works even when power is cut. Sadly it doesn’t switch to battery fast enough (like half a second delay 😓) for it to work as a UPS directly. But in combination with some old regular UPS that have spend batteries that only last a few minutes it works ok. But yeah, not the most efficient option conversion wise, but solar power is free 🤷

They are right-wing “free speech” / 4chan chuds, that tollerated until very recently an even worse dev that is trolling a lot as a TERF, currently works for Truth Social (Trump’s MAGA cesspit) and also made the Rebased fork after being finally kicked out.
The codebase is also a mess full of half-baked ideas. A few years ago the more reasonable people forked off Pleroma into Akkoma and spend significant time cleaning up the codebase.

Compatibility between Lemmy etc. and Pleroma etc. isn’t the best, since the latter has no concept of communities.
Maybe you could try Mbin or the experimental support in Piefed to also subscribe to personal microblogs. That will be probably the closest to a single app that does both.
But the Mastodon compatible apps will not work with that (and anyway have no concept of communities or groups).

Better use Akkoma. Rebased is made by really shitty people that even the Pleroma people kicked out if I remember correctly.

Yes, we have admin approval on our instance and get a few such registrations per week these days. Luckily right now the registrations openly say that it is an LLM agent that operates the account, but that is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

I don’t quite agree. The people that leave silently (the overwhelimingly large majority) don’t leave as an active decision, but rather fail to come back because there isn’t enough interest (or nagging notifications).
And for people to realize their overton window is scewed to the right it is sufficient to be exposed to left wing ideas, no need to find them reasonable. The regular existence of these ideas in discourse is sufficient.

The holy scripture should only be read in the original German /s

Well, an alternative explanation would be LLM agent accounts, which started to appear on the fediverse around the time the above graph started to go up.
Here on Lemmy they are a bit delayed and only started to sign up in larger quantities in the last 2-3 months.

People learning what the overton window is and that it can be very much different depending on the place you are in (i.e. instances in the case of the fediverse, but also to a lesser extend the fediverse itself) is a good thing in my view.
No, sadly no active fork of Alexandrite that I could find.
We found a nice fork of the mymlm (old.) frontend though.
