Comparing daily snapshots I see 100mb+ daily churn (I assume restic diff is pre compression), the borgbase repository space usage chart shows it increasing about 50mb daily.

I’m not doing any sort of backup conversion. Borgbase is a website that focuses on hosting borg backups, but they also natively support restic. I chose restic out of convenience for my local backups because it came preinstalled on truenas and figured it made sense to use the same for my cloud backups.
My local backup drives still have room (it’s my main pool with all bluray backups that’s begging for more space), but borgbase is approaching the point where I’ll have to bump to a higher tier or pay per gb. Looking at my usage chart every day adds at a minimum 50mb so something has to change.
I didn’t really want to poke through each containers files to figure out where it stores logs, plus it adds risk that I’m not backing up something I should.
When I say databases aren’t real data, I’m more talking about them changing every day despite nothing happening. Even if I haven’t taken any photos or opened the app, today’s db dump of immich is not the same as yesterday’s db dump so restic stores it as a new unique file.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame] Steam Frame First ImpressionsEnglish
4·1 month agoIgnoring the resolution/clarity upgrade, how does the color vibrancy/contrast compare with the Vive? I’ve been unsure about making a similar upgrade because of the industry switch from OLED to LCD, but given the ten year tech gap I’m hoping the difference isn’t actually that big.

1·2 months agoI don’t know if that’s a definite, vs not being able to stream from a steam machine specifically. You can already stream from linux pcs to other headsets, so I think the limitation is gamemode right now.

Technology@lemmy.world•How AI text watermarking works: a visual guideEnglish
75·3 months agoAssuming a checker tool is public it’s enough for a teacher to verify classwork, but AI providers having the sole ability to identify generated content with no way to independently verify is not a real solution.
Plus this site advertises a tool to remove this watermarking, so it can’t be that hard to scrub out if you’re aware of it.

Most early disc consoles had nonstandard discs in some way. Even if they are readable with a standard drive I doubt MS will support it. (They’ve surprised me with this announcement though, so who knows)
Not sure if you’ve seen but Gears 2 got some sort of recomp/port about a week ago. I haven’t had a chance to play it too much yet but the tutorial with Carmine worked without a hitch. https://www.moddb.com/mods/gears-of-war-2-hollow

WINEDLLOVERRIDESwon’t be needed I’ll be very happy, it’s been very fiddly trying to get optiscaler working.
I’m sure they are, but but I think their effort is targeted at standalone headsets and won’t translate much to wired headsets.
Wireless headsets do have fewer issues on Linux, from what I’ve read. A lot of the stuff I’m missing like passthrough and boundaries are probably handled by the headset instead of the pc.
In my experience steamvr works but is unstable and has really bad performance compared to windows. (Constant stuttering even in lighter games like pistol whip) Motion smoothing doesn’t work and it feels like there’s some input delay which is not acceptable for vr.
I’ve switched over to monado via envision, which loses the steamvr overlay and is very unpolished. (no camera passthrough and no boundary display, though both seem in development) Games play correctly with reasonable performance, which is what matters.
I wouldn’t recommend linux vr in general right now, if a friend wanted to try my headset I’d probably boot my windows partition. (Original htc vive with a 9070xt, so no excuse for steamvr’s linux performance)

4·8 months agoHas anybody ever called tariffs his only or even primary playing card? I know Trump’s a big fan of them, but they have nothing to do with his election interference, free speech suppression, weaponized justice department, or directly putting federal money in his own pocket. Tariffs are how he’s raising prices and destroying the US’s international relationships and standing, but he has plenty of other options for that.

Biden didn’t release them because there was an ongoing investigation keeping them sealed. Trump ended the investigation as part of his coverup. Good job preempting the fUnNy tExT though.
