I’m happy to boost whatever it takes, but I’m too old and I’ve got too many medical issues to be the nucleation point.

Assuming that enough people will come to a personal epiphany at the same time to make a difference hasn’t ever worked, though. There must be a catalyst if you don’t want individuals to do the right things years apart, ineffectually.

Yes but are they? What would it take?
But what does “cast it into the fire, destroy it” mean?

No offense taken, I completely agree.

I do that when I can, but local selection is often pretty limited.

Same, but it takes effort. Even when items aren’t Amazon exclusives, Amazon still contractually requires the seller to give them the best price, so we all still pay the Amazon tax. Also, even if you order direct from the manufacturer’s website (for the ones that still have a website instead of just a Facebook page), it’s often shipped or fulfilled by Amazon. Or, if you find a decent alternative store like jet.com or woot.com, Amazon just buys them.

Both can be true. People are being fired in absurd numbers and AI is not doing a good job of replacing them, but management refuses to accept it. Cory Doctorow has written extensively about this.

If we could deal with the waste that we’ve already got, that would instill some confidence, but the govt has basically shrugged. https://youtube.com/watch?v=nLUAN2Rev1E

Two is one and one is none.

I’ve seen nothing that AI can do that justifies the economic or ecological cost.

This. Research that always has to be fully confirmed hasn’t actually been done in the first place.
Solving problems by brute force don’t make economic sense to me.
Using an automation tool you can only trust for subjective tasks makes even less sense to me.

He explained it but you didn’t read.
Also called a reverse centaur.
Exactly this! They started from some emotional/political/vibes-based treatment that didn’t work because obviously, then suddenly they want to be all facts-driven when they could face some criticism for gumming up our healthcare system with their nonsense.

Washington state is fully mail-in. In recent years, MAGA terrorists have started setting drop boxes on fire here. If mail becomes unreliable, I expect that to accelerate. This is a hot war.

I’ve had mine for years, repaired and upgraded it, and I love it!
I was thinking Nick Offerman.
I’ve never once seen a car like this driving less than many miles and decibels above the legal limit.
