  • If you don’t already, actively search for some time to spend by yourself. Don’t text people. Don’t go on social media (even here). Do a quiet activity (read a book, draw, write, etc.) or meditate for an hour. Feel only your thoughts.

Next time you’re with a group that isn’t all extroverts, maybe try a mini version of just existing. Appreciate silence.

All I can really think of — I honestly think both parts of these meme are reductive and inaccurate af.

If you can’t tell the difference between random white people on the internet complaining about a film adaptation of the Odyssey and the author of Earthsea not liking the TV show they made about her books just because they’re both fictional narratives, you might be a bit out of your depth in attempting to critique Le Guin about anything.

Maybe skip those too, then ¯_(ツ)_/¯

There isn’t a shortage of movies. I’m willing to bet someone is out there pandering to your preference for historically accurate skin tone in fictional stories where it’s barely described and has no meaning in relation to the plot.

Bullshit. It’s a modern take on an ancient myth where half the characters are barely described physically. Nothing about people who never existed can be miscast by skin color, unless you’re going to try to tell me that this is meant to be a historical reenactment of, again, events that never happened.

I suppose Charybdis could be miscast if they used a kangaroo, but frankly I haven’t seen the movie and don’t know if that part is even depicted.

  • A bit absurd, in my limited experience. I did a bow with a one-handed rapier-like sword and a parrying dagger in my one playthrough so far. The bow was irritating to aim and arrow flight seems weirdly inconsistent on distance, but when it lands it’s about as overpowered as sneak archery in Skyrim.

The parrying is similarly strong — enemies could kill me if I wasn’t paying attention, but you can parry the majority of attacks, including things that seem impossible, like parrying a bear biting you, and the parrying dagger’s window is overly forgiving and overly spammable to the point that I had to stop myself from using it sometimes. I think parrying with other weapons is less silly, but I didn’t mess with them enough.

I also didn’t try the magic, so someone else can pick that part up, but it looked pretty extensive.

If I understand it correctly, it’s the use of negative framing of another person’s physical attributes or demeanor, constructed in the hope the receiver of the “negging” has low enough self-esteem to agree with the assessment and will assume the asshole is a person of higher intrinsic worth.

There might be more to it, but I usually just think of it as a form of reverse psychology + emotional abuse.
