  • Am in tech. Surrounded by tech people. Front devs, back devs, data engineers, data scientists and analysts, IT techs…

They know windows. They know macOS as an “easier alternative for normies”. Some of them even prefer it because it’s “easy”. A few of them even know there’s a terminal somewhere, but wouldn’t git commit from the command line even if their life depended on it.

A lot of them have heard of Linux, in a distant and nebulous way. Most of them still believe that Linux is confined to the server space or a weird dev environment inside WSL because you’re developing for servers, that you can’t daily drive Linux as a desktop, or that you can’t game on Linux. None of them would consider switching even if they spend their day complaining about how shitty windows is.

This is true for about 95% of the tech people I interact with btw. Big tech psyop is real.

  • What bothers me is that we are collectively conflating two very different things when talking about “AI”.

LLMs are inherently evil. They are built on the stolen knowledge of the entire human history, are controlled by the worst people alive and destroy everything they touch, from the environment to people’s brains.

Machine learning algorithms are actually neat. A specialized algorithm, trained on a specialized dataset, fine tuned and running on a finite number of features, can actually help humanity survey massive amounts of data that would be extremely expensive and time consuming when done manually. It can and is absolutely used for evil (see dynamic pricing, gambling companies etc). But it can also be used for good. And they’re cheap as fuck to run compared to LLMs. When you hear “AI has solved this and that”, it’s always someone putting the time, effort, knowledge and focus to build something hyper-specialized (unless it’s a $10 billion worth of burned credits publicity stunt).

And that’s a shame. Because LLM cunts reap all the publicity because lazy journalism conflate all ML-adjacent work into “AI”.

  • Okay let me try.

First, senatorial elections are indirect elections. Meaning that senators are elected from an electoral college mostly from local officials. The system is extremely complex and depends on the departement’s number of senators, itself roughly proportional to population. The senate as an institution is really controversial, since it has almost always been very right wing because France has a rural bias in terms of of sheer number of rural municipalities vs. urban and more progressive ones (overgeneralisation I know, but mostly true).

Second, the “surge” is only 12 seats of a total of 178 up for election. Not a tsunami wave per se, but still worrying as the system tends to favor the traditional right wing, as it reflects a much larger proportion of far-right presence in local, departemental and regional councils.

And third, because like everywhere else in Europe, nazi cunts from USA, Russia and Israel flood social media with propaganda to destroy democracy from the inside. And a lot of major media outlets are owned by fascist billionaires.
