It sounds like the idea was that there would be no attacks on energy infrastructure in particular, so not “partial” in the sense of quantity but rather in targets.

We settin’ records here
“Artificial intelligence” finally makes sense. We artificially dumb down our own human output to evade AI, artificially inflating how intelligent it seems.

Excuse me, it’s a medium size chocolate bar for 6.59 if I got >10 gallons and a soda+hotdog, with membership.

“To push for abortion pill ban”, which I assume means initiate lawsuits.

Except the things society would actually benefit from being recorded, surveilled, and archived, like police body cam footage.

So, where does this all fit: Congress didnt really make a law doing that. Executive branch policy changed ICE’s protocols until that’s what we have.

On the assumption Apple wants to facilitate access to such authorities, were I Apple, I’d have either already made available redundant backdoor so disabling any one wouldn’t be a problem; or, I’d have others ready to be opened when I need to shut others down.

Others have addressed what I’m about to say, but there is an answer older than LLMs: advertising.
Google made an amazing search product, one used by so so many people from all over. This made them a perfect platform for advertising, and as time passed and it became their primary focus, they realized they could make even more money people spent more time on their own site.
How do you do that, when the product people are there to use is aimed to redirect you elsewhere? Make it take longer to find the thing they are looking for. Search was incentived to work less well so that users saw more ads and for longer.
Integrating AI into search results introduced new ways to keep people on Google itself, including by presenting the answers themselves directly. But it started earlier.

You have no chance to survive make your time. Ha ha ha ha…

Yes, Augustus. But they didnt add months; they renamed existing months, and also got days added to them by taking off from the last month - which was February at that time. Related fun fact: September, October, November, and December are just names from the root words in Latin for 7, 8, 9, and 10 because they were the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th months. When the calendar was rearranged to start with January, it threw that off.

I would say that imprisoning someone for life, regardless of the level of comfort, is no light sentence. Your old life is gone. The people you cared about, most will essentially or actually disappear from your life.
Killing is not the only meaningful way to punish someone, and even fracturing a skull is not necessarily a greater harm to someone than imprisoning then for life.

Because our world rewards villains more than heroes.

There is absolutely a subset of basically any population that would volunteer. Maybe only once, but they would.

“We” didn’t “run out of money”. Billionaires decided they wanted more consolidated money, power, and control than they had, and chaos always favors those with the resources to capitalize on it. A few of them get burned, and some new folks who don’t yet have real power manage to seize some opportunity, but by and large chaotic periods are a wonderful way for the power and prepared to acquire more of what they covet.

I’m enjoying this - “We’ve learned enough science now that we realize it’s more likely fantasy creatures would be visiting us than that technologically advanced sentients would be traveling interstellar distances to visit.”
Reminds me of:
