I try to keep a pulse on this thing, i live in deep maga territory. I understand the instinct to believe everyone knows they are being duped, but after i spent time getting to know some Trump supporters i have become deeply infuriated at the education system: they are indeed that dense. For disadvantaged men, at least, the culture of being tough and masculine leads to a lot of unaddressed trauma that is then channeled by the media to reinforce conservative ideology.

It is not that complicated to see, for example: being gay is bad in the ideology, anything deemed as gay is ostracized; human sexuality is a spectrum and only a small minority are perfectly straight, so any given man probably has some subtle gay feelings they have to repress. These men are then fed the story that they are better than the gay men because they (the conservatives) have self restraint. This contempt that has been manufactured is then translated directly into votes, because why would one let “reckless unrestrained fools” (my paraphrasing of perspective) run the country?

This is why culture war nonsense is so damned important, if people knew they were being fooled the culture war wouldn’t work.

Next time you wanna post something and not have your perspective challenged in any meaningful way, go ahead and post it somewhere else

Concrete archaeological evidence is tremendously unlikely to ever surface. The afforementioned statement is a plausible conjecture based on what circumstantial evidence is apparent weighed against what we consider reasonable human behavior at the time. You can have both excessively early sexual exploration and excessive self repression as a product of social media. Just to postulate: at early ages self consciousness hasn’t set in making sexual activity just a thing, and then when the teenage mind forms and self consciousness sets in one sees sexual behavior as childish. It is absolutely possible that what you see and the statistically observed sexual repression of modern youth are a product of the same forces

I think America has farther to fall before a serious conversation about Marx’s ideas can hit mainstream. Right now “socialism” just means “progressive reformation” thanks to the propaganda machines. On top of that the general price increase over the last 25 years has come with considerable increases in set intricacy, piece count, and variety to both piece shapes and themes. I love to dunk on corporate price gouging but i really struggle to fault LEGO. I personally use “a person can comfortably buy LEGO as toys for their children” as my personal litmus for what a good wage should be; they’re pretty solid for maintaining a price/value ratio and Americans should all be making at least 150k/year by now even out in the boonies, just deduct it right out of the fortune 500s margins

To a certain extent you are correct and that is the point. For those leaders not so engrossed in the dogma abstracting away the idea of god acts as a bridge. Someone showing up to AA must believe in something outside of themselves as being more important than themselves otherwise why would you improve yourself? For religious leaders who operate in institutions, the ways of the institutions must be upheld, but it is also obvious that the institutional ways are bullshit and change is slow, so compromise is made to enable those who see through the bullshit to participate without drawing the ire of the “true believers”
