First, this would be a better question to ask in a Linux specific community.

Second, Build time is really subjective to the computer and its hardware. There could be bottlenecks at the cpu/memory from the motherboard that will slow it down. It also depends on whether you’re spinning rust or using an ssd.

There are a lot of factors involved in the whole that makes it hard to definitively say how long something takes to build.

Money for the most part for a lot of people.

Passports are $400+ USD, then there are the plane tickets, which are hundreds of dollars. Then to top it off you need to have room and board while looking for a job and someplace to live.

Another thing I’ve heard is fear of leaving the known and family.

  • Actually yes, if we didn’t wear shoes all the time. The bottom of your feet will be more hardened from calluses where it meets the ground. Think about it this way, when we are kids we run around shoeless most of the time. For all intents and purposes, shoes have ruined our feet. Either by crushing them together, like women’s pointed shoes and men’s cowboy boots as an example, as well as allowing the soles of our feet to soften. As a kid I used to run up and down gravel roads and driveways barefoot without a care in the world, now the bottom of my feet can’t handle stepping on gravel without shoes.

Trust me, it’s not just satire.

I was in a homeless shelter about 7 years ago, unfortunately as a resident, and this dude I shared my room with was like 40 and would post on his Facebook profile that he was looking for a godly woman who doesn’t want to work and wants kids. His description of her was as follows:

Must be blonde, 5 foot to 5.5 foot tall, weigh no more than 110 lbs, must be religious to the only point of life was serving god and him. She must be no older than 25 and big boobs and perfect breeding hips.

This dude was 40, 300 lbs, 6ft tall. Took a shower once a week, worked at pilgrims chicken on the kill floor, and was so slow it took him 10 minutes to walk up a 100ft driveway from where the bus dropped him off. And yet he could never understand why No women wanted anything to do with him

  • To this day the government is still trying to create a lot of the tech from Star Trek. They are actively working on warp technology, replicators for food and clothes etc and Star Trek was the basis for a lot of today’s computers (i.e. no tubes like old tvs and computers before the invention of the desktop computer).

One time the government actually approached the producers and wanted to know how they got the doors to open and close automatically like they do. Genes answer “there’s two men holding onto broom sticks, one on each side, when the actor walked up to the doors they would pull the broomsticks and make a ‘whooshing’ sound as they opened and closed them “

Now we have that tech on 90% of retail shop doors. Star Trek was the basis for a lot of tech we use now.

  • I’ve been on Linux for 20+ years and have never had to rely on paid for support. The paid for support is really geared towards professional big business work stations and server stacks. If you need support for Linux you can find free support on their forums 99% of the time. It’s the IT departments with lazy techs that rely on Linux paid support.

You are right about the Micro$uck hate though. Why should I pay to use an operating system on a computer I buy and use until it’s reached it’s EOL when I can use Linux to do everything you do on windows and I don’t have to pay for the software? In today’s economy, it makes sense to use Linux.

  • The creators are making money from the ads, they probably won’t abandon ship at yt unless they stop making revenue. A lot of the creators on yt rely on the ads to be worthwhile in creating the content.

I agree, yt is getting stupid with their ads, from what I understand they are now including ads in the yt premium subscription aervice, which is supposed to be ad free mind you.

As long as greed dictates content, creators won’t abandon ship, unless they can have ads on the alternatives to make money on.

  • Not completely true. Are there shot pirates yes, just like there are shit uploaders that think it’s fun to bundle a computer virus with downloadable content.

If it’s something new, like a new book or movie, I will pay for it. The movies/shows I pirate are old and mostly out of circulation, unless they are streaming on some service. I pay for those so their is monetary transactions.

For example, I just recently spent 2 days downloading CHiPs original tv series, even with my high speed broadband it was that slow because there aren’t that many people offering it. Took me 3 days to find it to dl.

Not all piracy is bad. New stuff, ok not cool. But older stuff that has had a good run, the loss of revenue to creator/publisher is so minimal that they won’t feel it.

I’m an ethical pirate, if I think it’s worth watching over and over again I’ll buy it, if it’s available. I won’t pirate software or books.

I have kindle for reading and there is nothing new worth downloading software wise, plus I use linux on my computer, so all my software is free anyway, and if I can’t donate financially I find other ways to help. I’m not a big gamer and when I do game it’s on console, so I do pay for that.

  • Because they all seem to think their beliefs are the true beliefs of what the Bible teaches. They will always be at war with one another.

The “teachings” of the Bible are all based on how one person interprets it compared to another, the individual churches all believe the same version as they were taught by their religious leaders, who in turn believe their ultimate religious leader, for example the Catholic Church (all variations) follow the pope and his interpretation.

Nope and I don’t care. I have no reason to go around any potus, no matter who they are. Besides, the Covid testing thing is really no different in any other country that wants to protect their leaders.

The thing is Biden was working on fixing it, it’s just there was so much damage by the time he got in office, there was no quick fix. Remember governance doesn’t fix everything immediately or overnight upon changing of the guard.

Everyone expected an overnight miracle which is impossible to achieve. They aren’t god or Jesus as depicted in the book of fairy tales called the Bible.

Umm you got the wrong person for that. Get it right 90% of Covid policies were enacted by trump, Biden didn’t come in until the damage was already done.

It’s funny how everyone looked up to trump for pushing the vaccination as fast as he did, only to condemn Biden for following through with it.

Because of that condemnation, the right-wingers refuse to take the vaccine they were so happy to take when trump was in office. So tell me, who’s the idiots now? Sure isn’t the dems.
